- Met Kimberle Crenshaw and was her assistant for a day.
- Was able to play with my professor’s baby and help her with her conference about intersectionality
- Met some seniors and alumnae whom gave me advice about my college and my summer fellowship
- Went to some good parties and got to bond with people I wouldn’t have bonded with otherwise
- Did a lil’ crushing..may be the reason why I’m currently listening to “Love on Top” by Beyonce.
- Biked to the grocery store and inhaled a large ice coffee from Dunkin Donuts
- Saw a terrific performance by the lovely Tamar. Got teary eyed.
- This goddamn perfect weather.
I’m not even mad that I have a lot of work to do.
Abortion
- I’ve always been pro-choice, but since the recent reproductive rights debate, I have never been more adamant of staying politically aware of the governmental regulation of women’s bodies.
- This being said, we’re becoming more and more like Gilead.
Education
- This is where we can make the most difference of creating positive, safe environments and
- Promoting ideas of lessening disparities in our society
- Needs reform, especially in the lower levels
- College is the best gift I have ever been given, and no qualified person should be turned away from an education, no matter of his or her socio-economic background
Gender
- is a performance. In the words of RuPaul, “You’re born naked and the rest is drag.”
- is a social construct, however this does not have to be negative. You can embrace gender by performing however you would like to be the happiest.
- is shaped by a multitude of discourses. Like I said previously, this is not necessarily a bad thing; you have the choice to make discursive shifts in your every day life.
- is not discovered at birth, childhood, or puberty. It could be determined at 50 years old or at 5 years old. You do not need a pivotal moment of realization in order to identify your gender, or lack of one.
- is also fluid. I’ve given more respect to those whom do not follow the binary. It does not trivialize a person’s sexuality.
- can be chosen. I’ve had a lot of arguments with myself about this. This followed after reading an article from Thought Catalog in response to Cynthia Nixon’s comment that she chose to be a gay woman rather than to be a straight woman. You may not have been ”born this way”, but experiences can lead you to move around within the fluidity of sexuality.
U.S. Politics
- It is necessary to remain hegemonic in order to remain a super power.
- Humanitarian aid > lies about why we are in war.
- There is a miseducation of how conservatives can “benefit” our nation.
- There is a serious lacking of women and people of color represented in government. If we were to correctly demonstrate the U.S. through our government, more and better ideas can be brought to the table.
…Thoughts late at night. Off to write my election speech.
I’m really sick of having to justify feminism by pointing out how the patriarchy hurts men too.
Why can’t helping women be enough?
Agreed. This reminds me of today’s class reading of Espiritu’s “All Men are not Created Equal.” It suggested that the feminist movement should include men, especially of color, whom do not benefit from patriarchy. What bothered me the most was that the author was implying they [Asian men] should regain their power and be at the same level of the oppressing, privileged, white men, or else they would lash out and abuse their wives and children. There is no justification for domestic violence whatsoever.
Arguing with feminists makes my brain hurt so I’m really just going to avoid it all together now.

I hope you read my reply on how Transvaginal Ultrasounds are considered rape. Rape constitutes as any object forced upon someone without consent. Requiring emotionally destructive ultrasounds before having an abortion by inserting an object in one’s vagina is extremely morally wrong.

- Misuse of the word “baby” instead of “fetus”
- Sex is Bella’s only tool for exercising power over Edward.
- Bella is not allowed to know anything even if it endangers herself and accepts it.
- She isn’t allowed to make any choices without the approval of Cullen family.
- Calls the fetus by a male gender pronoun without knowing neither its sex nor gender.
…will add more as I watch the rest of the movie…if I can.
I talked about Mount Holyoke, Frances Perkins, and women’s rights as well.
